Lesson 9: Due October 29th and November 2nd
You’ll start exploring drama by reading 2 very short plays. In literary study, we call all plays “drama,” not just plays that you would find categorized under “drama” in a catalog of movies.
You have studied short stories and poems as literary genres. Drama is another literary genre. As you read, observe how these 3 genres differ and overlap.
What to Read
- Chapter 16 (718-722)
- Beauty (1035-1057)
- Sure Thing (1049-1057)
A. Watch a performance of 1 of the plays (you can find many versions by typing in the author’s name and title of the play on youtube). Describe the performance and explain how watching it changed your experience of the play. Provide the url. Wednesday
B. Watch and respond to another student’s Discussion A. Sunday
Informal Writing Assignment 7
“Happy Endings’ and Sure Thing are similar in style in their short repetitious bursts. In a 2-3 page essay, compare the two texts. What do they say about storytelling? What do they say about the meaning of things that happen? How do they help us to understand the differences between genres?
