Question 4

For the last 3 weeks we will use the discussion board for questions and answers about the research paper. You must participate at least once in the 3 weeks to receive these 5 points. I suggest you check in each week as many of the topics will likely apply to everyone.

  1. Hope that you all have a great rest of your winter. I have finished up my paper already for the fact that I am leaving for vacation tomorrow to some place warmer with little internet access.

  2. I just want to ask my fellow peers on any insight they have on Robert Frost? What do you think of him as a person, poet, etc? What is one of your favorite poems that he has written, and what did you take away from it? That is all 🙂

    1. Personally I love Frost, his style is rather simplistic in nature. I enjoy the topics he writes on as well. My favorite poem by him is “The road not taken”

  3. is anyone else having trouble accessing the library databases? I’m checking so I can narrow down what the problem might be

    1. It was working great for me, but I do see several other students having issues. Maybe widen your search? Or make it more vague? What is your topic?

      1. Thalia,
You will need to log in with your UAF email address to access the library’s databases online. The only other option is to go to the library physically to access the databases on their computers. An IT person should be able to help you if you are having trouble accessing the databases online.

      2. a review of David Ives work, and yeah vague sort of works, thanks for the reply my internet has just been super spotty lately or I’d have responded sooner

  4. I was having issues with the library databases, but I’m also having problems figuring out a clear direction for my paper. I originally wanted to write about Peter Pereira’s “Reconsidering the Seven” and how his religion (or lack there of) influenced him as a poet, but I can’t find anything in the databases or anywhere else really about him as a poet, only his medical work since he’s actually a doctor. Could anyone help me figure out a new direction to go in? Should I switch to a different author, or subject? Or do you think I can keep the subject, but include multiple author’s? I’m lost.

    1. Have you tried Google Scholar? The text recommends it and it might point you in the right direction. If I were you, I would stick with the subject but maybe include several authors? That way you have more work to chose from. Have you found other authors that have been influenced by religion or lack there of? I typed “poets influenced by religion” into google scholar and got over 335,000 results. I am sure you can narrow your search and find some good ideas. I will keep my eye out for you as well. Good luck!

      1. Thanks, I’ll try that. I have used Google scholar before, but I think since I was looking for Pereira specifically that it may be why I was having such an issue.

        1. Tanya,
You have picked a poet who has not been given a lot of critical attention yet. I did find one article about him as a poet on Academic Search Premier:
          Gay Poetry, Politics, Poetics.
By: Crandall, Jeff; Greenwell, Garth; Pereira, Peter; Teare, Brian. Beloit Poetry Journal. Summer2011, Vol. 61 Issue 4, p41-48. 8p

he himself wrote about his own poetry or about poetry in general in these two articles (both of these could be used as your academic articles):
          What’s Written on the Body.
By: Pereira, Peter. JAMA: Journal of the American Medical Association. 8/13/2003, Vol. 290 Issue 6, p715-715. 1p.

The healing power of poetry: How writing helps me be a better doctor through empathy.
By: Pereira, Peter. Writer (Kalmbach Publishing Co.). Mar2007, Vol. 120 Issue 3, p15-17. 3p. 1 Color Photograph.

Obviously these citation above are just cut and paste and not in MLA format. Full texts are available from Academic Search Premier,

I may have more suggestions for other search avenues not directly related to this poet specifically after I read your draft.

          1. I found all three of those articles before, but they don’t have anything in them that is useful to my topic. The first one is actually just the emails between all those authors about what seemed like mostly politics. I just need to change my entire paper idea, go in a different direction all together.

  5. Hey all, I have been having some issues trying to find good explications on some of Emily Dickinson’s poems. Is there anyone else in the class writing on her?

  6. Good afternoon,
I would like to get some insights on everyone’s perspective on Tennessee Williams and his play of The Glass Menagerie. What did you all think of it? And how might the characters in the play display an image on his own family?

  7. resident-Elect Trump as Ambassador to the U.N. Trump’s decision to appoint Haley to this position aims more at pandering to Asian-Americans by giving a high ranking and “highly visible” position to someone from Indian decent. Unfortunately, this also shows that the Presiden
